Statement Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 update (KB2956128)

February 19, 2015 by Suyi

Dear community members, partners and friends,

Last week Microsoft updated Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 and this breaks the compatibility features in ZCP. Normally we are capable of addressing this issue the same day but this time we entered a whole new challenge.
What makes it so challenging?
Currently we are experiencing crashes on mainly Windows 7 systems after we have applied our patches. We are still in the phase of debugging this issue.

Which versions are affected?
From our investigation, the following versions are affected. The version that Outlook is displaying may differ, there we are advising to verify the version in the details tab. To do so, please check the following directories for the version of Outlook:

OEM: Outlook 2013 – 15.0.4667.100
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\outlook.exe

OEM: Outlook 2010 – 14.0.7143.5000
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\outlook.exe

Click-2-run: Outlook 2013 – 15.0.4667.100
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\outlook.exe

When can you expect a fix?
After Microsoft has released the update, they are currently also experiencing some problems, which only makes it even more difficult for us to patch their problem. Nonetheless, we have are aiming for the end of this week but since Microsoft also needs to address their issue, there is a chance that they will roll-out another update.
We have also receive signals that uninstall the patch will break your Outlook client, so please do not attempt to uninstall KB2956128.

Kind regards,

Suyi Guo
